June 2023 was an exciting month for the MSP. The 8th Biennial Scientific Conference was held at Aloft Hotel, on the 3rd and 4th of June 2023. The conference was as eventful as its locality at KL Sentral, with a whooping 222 participants attending the pre-conference workshop and conference.

The theme for this year was very in-vogue; “Towards sustainability of peri-implant health: current and future challenges”. It was a pleasure to hear the eminent Dr Nikos Mattheos, deliver his keynote lectures on prosthetic design risk on peri-implantitis and management of peri-implantitis patients. His years researching the supra-crestal complex made us all aware of the importance in prosthesis planning in implant treatment.

There was never a dull moment. The topics ranged from implant planning to management of peri-implantitis and maintenance of implants, all delivered by prominent speakers from all over the country. Varies perspectives were explored as the speakers themselves were from different fields and backgrounds. Some were from universities, while others from public and private practices. Three forum style discussions were incorporated in the itinerary for greater discourse depth as well.

This 8th Biennial Scientific Conference had something for everyone. Young researchers platformed their work via 27 e-poster and 9 oral presentations. Trade and networking opportunities were abundant with the 16 sponsor booths put up, amongst the free flow of coffee and tea. Additionally, there were generous prizes for lucky draw winners.

After 2 full days, there was a sense of enrichment and fulfilment, while yet being an enjoyable weekend for all. Needless to say, it was a successful event. Can’t wait for the next one in 2 year’s time!
